Introduction to LI Yong's Experience in Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for Cancer Prevention and Treatment Based on the "Body-Mind-Spirit Trinity" Model
Abstract:Under the guidance of the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory of "unity of body and spirit" and integrated with the modern holistic health concept of "body-mind-spirit," LI Yong emphasizes that cancer prevention and treatment should take into account the patient's body( physical),mind( psychological),and spirit( mental state), thus establishing a comprehensive intervention model combining "body regulation, mind management, and spirit harmonization. " Specifically, "body regulation" focuses on the integration of etiological, disease-specific, and syndrome differentiation. On the basis of modern pathological classification, molecular characteristics, and disease staging, it incorporates TCM constitution identification and the principle of treatment in accordance with three categories of etiological factors (i. e, seasons, environment, and body constitution) to dynamically balance the therapeutic principles of strengthening healthy qi and eliminating pathogenic factors. "Mind management" emphasizes psychological counseling through specialized "systematic therapeutic communication" in oncology to improve patient compliance and disease awareness. "Spirit harmonization" adopts traditional health-preserving therapies such as GUO Lin's Qigong to regulate emotions, support healthy qi,and enhance patients' recovery confidence. Clinical practice has shown that this body-mind-spirit trinity model helps reduce the toxic side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, improve patients' quality of life, and demonstrates certain advantages in preventing disease recurrence and metastasis as well as promoting long-term rehabilitation.
