Abstract:As the channels for the ascending and descending of qi movement and the metabolism of body fluids in the human body, the sweat pores and collateral vessels are closely interconnected. The sweat pores govern opening and closing, regulating the ascending and descending of qi movement;the collateral vessels are responsible for percolating and nourishing, distributing qi and blood to moisten the intestines. The pathogenesis of post-stroke constipation lies in dysfunction of the large intestine in transportation. Based on the sweat pores and collateral vessels theory,it is proposed that the physiological characteristic of the sweat pores—valuing opening and avoiding closure, with patency as its normal state—shares common ground with the function of the large intestine, which also relies on patency. In clinical practice, scalp acupuncture for opening the blockage and abdominal acupuncture for relieving stagnation are used to open the sweat pores and unblock the collaterals in the treatment of post-stroke constipation.
