Exploration on Treatment of Bushen Huazhuo Therapy for Steroid-Induced Osteone⁃ crosis of the Femoral Head from the Perspective of Osteogenic-Adipogenic Differentia⁃ tion of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Abstract:Steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is the most common type of non-traumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head, with a complex pathogenesis. The imbalance between osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) is considered a core pathological link. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory,SONFH falls under the category of bone erosion, with kidney essence deficiency as the fundamental etiology and obstruction by turbid pathogens as the key mechanism of disease progression. Based on these etiological and pathological characteristics, this article proposes Bushen Huazhuo (tonifying the kidney and resolving turbidity) therapy as a crucial treatment for SONFH. This approach emphasizes resolving turbidity as the priority and tonifying the kidney as the foundation. From the perspective of BMSCs differentiation imbalance, this article systematically explores the theoretical basis and clinical practice of Bushen Huazhuo therapy for SONFH, aiming to provide a new integrated strategy combining TCM and western medical perspectives for the treatment of SONFH.
