Abstract: Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is a refractory orbital disease with multiple residual symptoms after orbital decompression. This paper focuses on the "co-regulation of liver and spleen" theory to explore the core pathogenesis of postoperative TAO, and propose that "liver depression, spleen deficiency, and phlegmdampness inter-conjugation" is the key pathological basis. Accordingly, the method of liver-soothing and spleeninvigorating was applied throughout the whole postoperative period of TAO. The treatment was divided into three stages: the early stage was supplemented by resolving phlegm and dispersing blood stasis, and the middle stage focused on tonifying qi and activating blood, and the late stage nourishing the liver and kidney. The clinical application of Shugan Jianpi Prescription has a definite curative effect on post-orbital decompression syndrome in TAO.
