Abstract: Thumb-tack needling for subcutaneous embedding, as an external treatment technique in Chinese medicine, demonstrates unique advantages in improving perimenopausal sleep disorders by continuously stimulating acupoints to regulate neuroendocrine, neuroelectrophysiological, and autonomic nervous functions. By retrieving relevant clinical randomized controlled trials on thumb-tack needling for subcutaneous embedding for perimenopausal sleep disorders, this paper reveals that the efficacy of thumb-tack needling for subcutaneous embedding alone is comparable to traditional acupuncture, and its combination with auricular tip bleeding, tuina,or Chinese herbs can significantly enhance therapeutic effects. However, current research faces limitations including insufficient exploration of mechanisms (e.g., unclear neuroimmune and epigenetic regulatory mechanisms), methodological constraints in clinical study design (small sample sizes, difficulties in blind implementation, short follow-up periods), lack of operational standardization, and incomplete safety data recording. Future efforts should deepen multi-omics mechanistic exploration, conduct high-quality clinical trials, establish standardized operating and safety systems, and explore innovative treatment models to promote its transformation toward evidence-based medicine.
